There has been a lot of chatter in Washington lately about energy. Namely, alternative energy sources, energy consumption, our dependence on foreign oil, and rising energy costs. While there are some scientists who are frantically working on ways to both cut our energy usage and some people (citizens, voters) who are right there with them, supporting them, there are others who sit idly by.

And then they complain when their energy bills are high, or cry when foreign oil consumption reaches a new high as our foreign debt skyrockets.

My main point in writing this is to encourage everyone to TAKE ACTION. Every action, even the smallest one, makes a difference. You do not have to be an influential lobbyist in Washington DC or are an energy company or science lab to make a difference. The little things add up. What if everyone turned off lights when not in use? How much energy would we save as a country? How much money would we collectively save? How much less pollution would be caused?

If little actions are aggregated, they make a big difference.

Now, a lot of people are going bonkers over alternative energy, clean energy, green energy. Whatever you choose to call it. If you like the idea, support it. Go beyond voicing your opinion. Build a wind generator, or solar array to power just one appliance. Let your local paper know what you did. Perhaps write a small story about it, and send it to the editor as a community article. Post something online about it. Heck, post it here as a comment or in the forum! Send an email or letter to your local congressperson. Include photos.
