First, every home, and I mean EVERY HOME, has heat loss. There are no two ways about it. Heat is lost through windows, doors, little openings, cracks, crevices, crawl spaces, uninsulated areas, attics, basements, baseboards, and more. It’s absolutely amazing how many ways heat can escape your home.

In fact, even if you were to take away all the windows in your home, it would still lose heat. If you took away the doors it would still be losing some heat. (That’s a silly concept. I mean, how are you going to get in?) There is no way to absolutely eliminate every single area of heat loss in your home.

It’s impossible. Can’t be done.

You know why? That would mean sealing your house off, making it totally air tight. Unless you have a lot of plants in the house, you couldn’t live there. There would be a very short supply of oxygen.

And I know you don’t want to turn your home into a hermetically sealed bio-dome test facility. So let’s just throw that out right now.

Joking aside, this is an important concept that most people say they recognize…but they act different.  So accept the fact that your house will have leaks. No matter if you are the most famous home improvement guru with his own TV show or his wacky neighbor. If you’re reading these articles for this reason, I’m sorry to disappoint you.
