Affordable green energy for your home

Many times, we talk the talk. You know, we puff out our chests, and talk about our ideals. We talk a lot about our dependence on foreign oil. We talk a lot about how coal power plants pollute the environment, and nuclear power is too dangerous. We talk about making our planet safer and cleaner. We talk real big.

Windfarms, such as these, can provide clean, green energy to your home.

But when it comes to following up on those actions (walking the walk, so to speak), we fall short. Or we don’t walk at all. For most, when they hear green energy they think a windmill in their backyard, or a solar panel on their roof. And they think of the headache (not to mention the aesthetics) of how “ugly” that would make their property look.

So, we go off, sip our latte or large coffee and talk tomorrow about saving the planet. But that’s all it is – just talk.

Let me tell you about another option, a more affordable and practical solution that requires no effort on your part. You don’t have to build the solar array or solar panels out of chipped or damaged cells. You don’t have to construct or buy an expensive wind turbine and worry about it falling down in the first wind storm that blows your way. And all it will cost you is that latte or coffee you probably shouldn’t be buying anyway.

Renewable Energy Credits (or RECs) may be right for you. You see, green energy is pumped into the power grid today, and every megawatt is tracked and “tagged”, so to speak. If you buy a REC, you offset that much of your traditional energy usage. In other words, let’s say you use 12 mW of energy per year. If you buy 12 mW of clean green energy, you’ve effectively offset your carbon cost.

When you do this, you encourage more green energy to be pumped into the grid. More incentive to produce more green energy and more people buying green energy means less demand for traditional dirty power.

The truth is, companies and major organizations like the NFL have been doing this for years. Now its the consumer’s turn. And like I said, it takes next to no time, and doesn’t require you building anything. And essentially, the end result is the same – your home will be powered by clean, green renewable energy.
