Harry, do you use fuses or do you have breakers? Was the electrical system recently serviced or installed?

I have a stupid question…how do you know that it is a hidden problem? Could something else be causing your bill to go higher? I didn't think that a utility bill can suddenly just start increasing. Are you being charged higher taxes or something? Is it always 3%? How do you know that it is higher than it would have been had the "hidden" or vampire problem not been there?

Hmm, interesting. I would suspect a malfunctioning appliance somewhere, or perhaps increased usage somewhere you're not really looking.
I guess your power meter could be wrong, you can contact the electric company to reset your meter or check on it to make sure everything is okay. I think they will do that for you free.

I recently noticed that my electric bill was steadily climbing higher, even though my consumption seems to have remained constant. every month it seems to be higher than the previous month by about 3% yet I've introduced no new electrical appliances. The weather has been average monthly as I am in the Southern USA. This is the first time my home has ever done this in the 6+ years I've lived here. I've tried disconnecting appliances but nothing seems to help. Could it be that my power meter is just wrong?
