In general, as far as older refrigerators go, the side by side units weren't as efficient as the top/bottom ones. 

Of course, like I said, this is a general statement. Nowadays, you would check and compare the energy rating stickers on the units to get a better idea. They have no doubt improved to the point of this "generalization" being just plain wrong.


As far as I remember, the savings were modest at best. You may save a couple dollars. If you even have a older fridge laying around, you're better off trashing it and buying a new one. The models today are so much more efficient than the older ones it can be comically ridiculous.Cool
